Senior Resources transitions durable medical equipment loan closet to Renew Mobility

Since our inception, and according to our mission, Area Agencies on Aging/Senior Resources has been tasked with ensuring adequate service/supports coverage so that older adults can remain in their homes while not duplicating services already provided. One of those services has been loaning Durable Medical Equipment (DME) through a loan closet. In order to focus on supports and services not provided elsewhere, Senior Resources is getting out of the DME loan business and is partnering with another local nonprofit to provide the equipment.
Since 1993 Renew Mobility’s skilled staff has been providing thousands of persons with disabilities in Muskegon County with vital mobility equipment. Their mission is to enhance independence through access to mobility equipment. Renew Mobility opened its Muskegon County location in August 2023 at Adelaide Point Property 1148 W. Western Ave. Unit 1204C. Their services and delivery are available throughout eight counties in West Michigan including Muskegon and Ottawa counties.  Their experienced program coordinators and technicians ensure the proper fit, education, delivery, pick up, and maintenance of the following DME: walkers, wheelchairs, knee scooters, power chairs and power scooters, bath equipment, transfer aids, canes and crutches, and adaptive aids.
“Over our long history of serving persons with disabilities, our focus has always been to alleviate barriers to this diverse population,” said Renew Mobility’s Executive Director Coleen M. Davis. “We’re familiar with the needs of seniors; in the past six years, we have been receiving support from the Kent County Senior Millage for our Gently Used Mobility Equipment Program. We’re very excited to expand our collaboration with Senior Resources and the lakeshore community.”
“As an area agency on aging, we look to avoid duplication of services,” said Senior Resources CEO Pam Curtis. “Knowing that Renew Mobility does this well in our region, we feel it makes sense to discontinue our program and support theirs. We will continue to accept donations and loan out consumables such as incontinent supplies and liquid supplements.”

Consumables include items such as taped and pull-on style adult briefs, wipes, blue pads, glove, and liquid supplements such as Ensure and Boost.

Effective immediately, please consider donating gently used durable medical equipment (DME) to Renew Mobility. You can scan the QR code to get to their website: renewmobility.org or call them at 616-493-2620.
