Area Agencies on Aging
There are over 600 Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) nationwide. These nonprofit agencies are experts on all aspects of aging. Created by Congress in 1973 through the federal Older Americans Act, AAAs’ mission is to create home and community-based services to maximize the independence and preserve the dignity of older adults. To accomplish this mission, AAAs work collaboratively with local and state-wide service providers as well as state agencies that oversee aging programs.
For information about the location of AAAs in other states, call the Eldercare Locator toll-free at 1-800-677-1116 or visit eldercare.acl.gov.
